GTC Town Center - Vancouver CA

An underutilized, transient space between Guildford Town Centre’s parking lot and mall entrance is transformed into a peaceful oasis, inviting visitors to pause & relax.

With a central tree as a focal point, the newly designed plaza creates a welcoming environment where shoppers can unwind & connect in a vibrant, rejuvenated space.

The Problem

Even with seating, the plaza doesn’t invite enough dwell time

The central tree and it’s shrubbery is mostly ignored by passersby

The Solution

Turn the space into a clearly defined and welcoming hub with additional seating and a clear brand identity

Design the bench to allow people to either face inward towards the tree, or outward

Use the circularity of plaza to enhance it’s overall architecture and central tree harmoniously through the design.

A circular bench with integrated table surfaces has been designed to nestle atop the existing concrete planter, enhancing both functionality and aesthetics - and extending to additional seating around the space.

Complementing this, an oversized staircase activation was introduced to serve as an inviting focal point from to entice curious vewers on the main thouroughfare.
